With that said there are a few thing you might consider from here to see if the performance of your phone can be improved. I am using a 1520 myself and have had not charging issues since the update.
I have personally worked with several customers using 920's that have successfully installed the preview and continue to use the phone afterward. It may be that this is a hardware issue and the process of installing of the 8.1 update brought this to the forefront. Thank you for posting to the forum regarding the issues you are having charging your phone since installing the 8.1 preview.
